Many hearing impaired persons have a TDD (Telecommunicating Device for the Deaf), a keyboard hooked into a telephone. They simply type instead of talk. The 911 dispatchers also have a TDD and can type back to the caller.
Our center is also able to receive text messages to 911. If your phone provider allows, you may send us a text message. Our dispatchers will be able to communicate with you via text just as effectively.

The E-911 Center uses a third party language translation service to provide a translator for the language needed. The translator will stay on the line throughout the call to relay information between the caller and the dispatcher. This service is paid for by the City of Roanoke.
