Benediction Project launches at
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge
A benediction is a bestowing of a blessing, and artist Charlie Brouwer's wooden sculpture titled Benediction (above) is currently bestowing a blessing on Roanoke passers-by and the city itself.
Benediction is currently installed at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge.
By Dec. 12, the work will have spent 20 days on the north side of the bridge, introducing the project to the city. That day, the sculpture will to cross the bridge to spend 20 days on the other side before beginning its tour of Roanoke across 9 different places of worship.
Through the non-denominational, ecumenical project, the sculpture will spend 40 days in front of each house of worship as a way of saying “Bless You!” to the community and exploring the relationships between places of worship and their role in community that surrounds them.
- Meet the artist and walk with him across the bridge with Benediction at 12 noon on Dec. 12, at the corner of Salem Ave. and 1st Ave.
