Message from the Roanoke City & Alleghany Health Districts

Hello, 

Thank you for signing up on the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health District (RCAHD) website to express interest in COVID-19 vaccine opportunities for individuals aged 75 and older.  We understand some of you have already been able to schedule and secure your vaccine, which is wonderful! For those who are still inquiring about vaccine, this email will provide you with helpful information.

This week, we were able to begin providing COVID-19 vaccine to individuals 75 years of age and older. At an RCAHD clinic on Thursday, January 21st, we vaccinated our first 50 individuals aged 75 and up. This weekend, we will partner with Carilion Clinic to offer vaccine for 4,000 community members who are over age 65. Appointments for this weekend’s clinic quickly filled, however, there will be additional clinic opportunities in the near future.  

There are currently tens of thousands of RCAHD residents eligible for Phase 1b. RCAHD is expecting to receive anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 doses of vaccine each week for the next four weeks, however, the supply of vaccine is never guaranteed and the total vaccine availability for RCAHD can change from week to week. Please know that it will take months for RCAHD to be able to vaccinate all who are eligible and wish to receive the vaccine. We are unable to project specific timelines to receive vaccine. 

As RCAHD receives weekly supply of vaccine, we will send information through this email to communicate upcoming opportunities for vaccination. Please note that by completing our interest survey, we will send you information, but we are not able to pre-register you or place you on a waitlist for a specific appointment. Clinics may also be open to the wider community for equitable access.
