Public Invited to Final Community Meetings for ‘Reimagine Oak Grove’

The public is invited to view the first draft of the Oak Grove Center Plan’s vision, strategy and recommendations at two open house meetings this week. The meetings will be held at Oak Grove Elementary School, 5005 Grandin Road Extension on Thursday, May 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. CORTRAN and STAR service is available for these meetings.

Staff are asking citizens for input that will help Roanoke County and the City of Roanoke finalize the overarching vision, principles, and core concepts for the area. Participants can comment on and rank projects that are proposed to be implemented over the next 20 years. Potential projects will include public space and landscaping concepts, Oak Grove Park improvements, and a range of multimodal transportation improvements. Participants can also weigh in on future development patterns that will guide development and redevelopment in the study area.

Beginning May 2, anyone who cannot attend the meetings will be able to complete the exercises online using this link during the public comment period (May 2 through May 31).

The draft Plan’s recommendations are based on feedback from stakeholders and community members. Nearly 170 members of the public attended four community meetings in 2018 and over 600 survey responses were collected for the planning study.

“Reimagine Oak Grove” is a joint planning effort between Roanoke County and the City of Roanoke to enhance the area for residents, visitors, and employees. The study area covers 173 acres and more than 80 commercial and residential properties, including Keagy Village and Oak Grove Plaza in the County, and Southwest Plaza in the City.

More information about the Oak Grove Center Study and upcoming meetings can be found online here.
