At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, the City of Roanoke will hold a special ceremony to rename the Roanoke City Courthouse in honor of Roanoke native and civil rights attorney Oliver W. Hill. The ceremony will take place on the steps in front of the courthouse. Speakers will include Mayor Sherman P. Lea, and representatives from the Oliver White Hill Foundation and the local legal community. Last year the city dedicated a marker in honor of Mr. Hill in front of his childhood home. This event will be another step in honoring his contributions.
