The National Weather Service has forecasted snow for the Roanoke area this weekend. With this in mind, the city reminds residents of its process for snow removal. If snow accumulates on streets, the city will aim to clear 95 percent of the snow from major streets and Valley Metro bus routes within 24 hours after snowfall ends. Once that is accomplished, snow removal crews will aim to clear 90 percent of neighborhood streets cleared within the following 24 hours.
The city will use its website and MyRoanoke notification system to share updates on its response to winter weather events, as well as Facebook and Twitter. To register for MyRoanoke notifications, click here. Detailed information about the city's snow removal process is available here.
The city encourages residents to stay home during winter weather events unless it is absolutely necessary to be out on the road. At the conclusion of the snowfall, citizens are asked to clear snow and ice from sidewalks in front of their homes.
