[ARCHIVED] Writer on the Bus Application Deadline Extended

Because of the recent closures due to weather and the approaching holidays, the deadline for the Writer on the Bus application has been extended to Jan. 15, 2019.

Writer on the Bus is part of the "Art on the Bus" program coordinated by the Roanoke Arts Commission, Ride Solutions, and the Greater Roanoke Transit Authority in which Valley Metro buses are wrapped with special vinyl sheets displaying a work of art, as a way to bring more awareness to the city's public art collection.  Writer on the Bus enhances this program by providing a writer or writers with a bus pass and paying them an honorarium of $1,000 to create a unique work of literature while riding different bus routes. The work may be any genre including short stories, poetry, essays, and plays, and may also be multimedia and include art, music, or photography. The work will be published on the participating organizations' websites and other venues.  Individuals or groups may apply by submitting an entry form, a writing sample, resume, and references. A panel made up of representatives from the sponsoring organizations and community members will review the applications and select the writer or writers from the applicants. The panel seeks to have content that is original, family friendly, creative, and constructive. Application materials can be found at this link.  For information on the current Writer on the Bus visit this website.
