[ARCHIVED] Flash Flooding Impacts Solid Waste Collection, City Streets

Solid Waste Collection for Thursday, Oct. 11, has been impacted by flooding and rainy conditions in city neighborhoods resulting from the current weather event.  Solid Waste Management will have additional crews available on Friday, Oct. 12, to address areas that were inaccessible on Thursday. Please call 853-2000, Option 1 if your residence was not serviced.

The city urges drivers to use caution and be ready to turn around when encountering flooded streets. Remember: Turn around, don’t drown.  During or after a storm, many people continue to drive around the barriers that warn a road is flooded. A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. It is never safe to drive into flood waters.
