[ARCHIVED] Packed Snow, Temperatures Challenge Snow Removal Efforts

Roanoke, VA – Snow that is packed down on streets and extremely low temperatures presented challenges for the city’s snow removal crews today, limiting the progress made on getting secondary streets cleared down to pavement. With temperatures expected to drop into single digits tonight, crews will halt snow removal efforts around sunset, with an on-call crew on standby to address reported trouble spots. Snow removal crews will resume full operations on Monday and rising temperatures should aid in efforts to finish clearing secondary streets.

Residents are reminded that calls or texts to 911 should be reserved for medical, fire, or police emergencies only. Please do not call 911 or 211 for specific information related to snow removal. Instead, residents should call the Citizen Call Center at 853-2000, Option 8 for general information on the status of road conditions or to report a street that needs to be plowed.
