On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 10am, Roanoke Parks and Recreation (PLAY Roanoke) will hold a ribbon cutting at the Garden City Park playground.
In September 2021, Parks and Recreation was given $2.3 million to address a substantial backlog of deferred maintenance projects. See the complete list of projects here. This investment in the parks system allows the department to address its backlog and get back to providing residents with the quality amenities they deserve. Updates on six playgrounds began in early April, and all projects were finished in July. Playgrounds were updated at Garden City, Raleigh Court, River’s Edge South, Staunton, Upper Washington, and West End Parks. On August 2, Parks and Recreation, the Mayor, and City Council will celebrate the completion of the playgrounds at these parks.
