Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts Announce the Opening of a Community Testing Center

The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts (RCAHD) announced that a Community Testing Center (CTC) at Valley View Mall is open as of January 20, 2022, to provide free Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing for COVID-19 to increase testing access in response to public demand.

The CTC will operate by appointment only and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. To find an appointment, visit Appointments will typically be released 24 hours ahead of each day’s event.

CTC test results will be automatically sent via text or email message to individuals being tested, usually within a few days, based on the information provided in the appointment system. PCR test results are very effective in detecting an active COVID-19 infection, even if asymptomatic.

The Valley View Testing Center site is a welcome addition to RCAHD’s existing local community testing events, all of which will be appointment-only events going forward. RCAHD will announce future testing opportunities on its website ( throughout the month of January.
