The City of Roanoke will give a presentation through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1-3 p.m., via Zoom. The webinar, titled "Building Community Violence Intervention Framework: City of Roanoke," will be presented by City leadership, as well as members of the Gun Violence Prevention Commission, to provide an in-depth look at building a local gun violence prevention framework, along with bridging and enhancing community partnerships, developing a local strategic plan, and leveraging state funding to support program implementation.
Led by Council Member Joe Cobb, the Commission and City staff will share information on the City of Roanoke’s comprehensive gun violence prevention framework, a multifaceted public safety approach, focusing on law enforcement, prevention, intervention, and justice as a community-wide effort.
In addition, the City’s Youth and Gang Violence Prevention Coordinator and Outreach Workers will give an update on intervention strategies; City Manager Bob Cowell will talk about Roanoke’s Star City Safe initiative; and Council Member Joe Cobb will share information about funding opportunities and prioritizing ARPA Gun Violence Intervention.
