The City will conduct its 2021 fireworks display on Saturday, July 3, at 9 p.m. over the fields at River’s Edge North. The display will occur one day early this year in an effort to give first responders and public safety officers the opportunity to spend the July 4 holiday with their families. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited staff’s ability to anticipate and plan for this display, a centralized event for public viewing of the fireworks will not be held.
To allow the use of the River’s Edge North fields for the fireworks show, those fields will be closed to the public. In addition, Reserve Avenue will be closed. Fireworks may be viewed from the River’s Edge South fields, which will be accessible only through the Roanoke River Greenway. Citizens who wish to view the fireworks from that location will be encouraged to park at points along the greenway—Vic Thomas Park, Wasena Park, or Piedmont Park—and travel the greenway on foot or by bicycle to River’s Edge South.
In the event of rain, the City will delay the fireworks and launch them later in the evening.
If you have questions about this event, please contact Kait Pedigo in the Parks and Recreation Department at 540-853-5469 or [email protected].
