To recognize September as National Preparedness Month, the City of Roanoke, in partnership with WDBJ-7, will be promoting Roanoke’s Prepareathon campaign by posting online resources all month long on social media. The posts will feature stories, trainings, and webinars on flood awareness and emergency preparedness. Take an active role in protecting yourself, your loved ones, and your community. Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. for our Prepareathon virtual kickoff on the City’s Facebook Page. For more information about helping your family prepare visit www.roanokeva.gov/getprepared.
This November marks the 35th anniversary of the Election Day flood in 1985. To bring to light the impact of disasters and prepare future generations for such events, the City invites the public to share experiences from this devastating flood. If you or someone you know was impacted by the flood, please share your story and help save lives. Let us know what happened, and what short- and long-term effects the event had on your life. In your submission, please state that the City of Roanoke has permission to use your story by printing it online and sharing it with partners, including local media. Please send stories and content (pictures and video) to Danielle DeHart at firstname.lastname@example.org.
