A public information session will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Raleigh Court Branch Library, located at 2112 Grandin Rd SW, to share details about the Citizen Science Water Monitoring Program and how you can volunteer to be involved.
You do not have to be a scientist to be a stream monitor; just be willing to learn and have fun! Volunteers monitor streams by taking samples of small insects that live on the bottoms of the streambed. Sampling is done twice per year (fall and spring). Training is required before becoming a qualified stream monitor. You will be provided with monitoring equipment and sample with a partner.
