The City of Roanoke is partnering with Roanoke Valley Veterans Council to plant trees again this year in honor of Veterans Day. Thanks to a generous donation from Carilion Clinic, our parks will receive five red oak trees to be planted on Friday, Nov. 8. The signature planting will be in Entranceway Park at 8:30 a.m. to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of The American Legion. The park, at the intersection of Williamson Road and Wells Avenue, is cater-cornered from the former location of The American Legion Auditorium. Two additional trees will be planted in Eureka Park, and two in Highland Park. This is the second year for this project, which was initiated by Council Member Bill Bestpitch.
