Roanoke, VA- The General Federation Women’s Club of Roanoke (GFWC) and City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation will co-host a dedication ceremony of two park benches and a piano on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Mountain View Recreation Center.
The GFWC took part in a project sponsored by TREX in which non-profit organizations could earn a bench for every 500 pounds of plastic they collected within a six-month period. The 10 members of the Roanoke chapter of GFWC collected over 1700 pounds of plastic, resulting in three benches, two of which will be dedicated on October 18.
In addition to those, the club will donate a piano to the Fishburn Mansion in honor of Shelby P. Hamlett, the 2000-2002 GFWC International President. Mayor Lea will accept the donations on behalf of the City, and a light lunch will be served after the dedication ceremony. Please contact Carol Guilliams, GFWC Women’s Club of Roanoke President, at [email protected] with any questions about the event.
