This week’s blog post is my budget message that was delivered to the Council today along with a $291 million budget proposal. I encourage you to take the time to read the message, or watch the presentation on Facebook Live, in order to gain an understanding of Council’s priorities and how the organization and its strategies align to deliver on those priorities. I also encourage you to look at two related documents:
- The first is the proposed budget delivered to the Council. Read Budget At-a-Glance Fact Sheet (DOC) | Read FY’ 19 Budget Proposal (PDF)
- The second is the FY 2016-2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report or CAFR. The CAFR is an annual report on the City's financial position and activity audited by an independent firm of certified public accountants. Read FY 2016-17 CAFR Report (PDF)
Combined, these documents provide an excellent overview of how the City plans to spend your money next year and how it spent last year.
In addition to viewing these documents, I would encourage your attendance at or viewing of the public hearing on the budget, scheduled for the evening of April 26. This hearing offers you the opportunity to share your thoughts about the budget directly with the Council prior to its adoption. Finally, please remember that this document outlines how the services we all depend upon will be funded, and at what level, for the upcoming year. It is therefore one of the most important documents that the Council reviews and takes action on each year.
