Downtown Ambassadors October Recap
The eight-person Ambassador Team is downtown six days a week expanding and improving the downtown experience for residents, employees, and visitors. Here are some things the team has been up to in October.
Bagged Leaf Collection 2022
The 2022 Bagged Leaf Collection dates have been announced. Remember only biodegradable paper bags will be collected (no leaves in plastic bags). As an alternative to leaf collection leaves can be mulch mowed or composted.
City of Roanoke Named Top-10 Digital City 2022
On November 10, 2022, the Center for Digital Government announced the winners of the 2022 Digital Cities Survey, recognizing cities utilizing technology to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance transparency and digital equity, plan for the future of work, and more.
The City of Roanoke placed 7th in the 75,000-124,999 population category and has been recognized as a top 10 Digital City for more than 20 years!
PLAY Roanoke After School Program Hosts Special Guests at Eureka Park Recreation Center
Students with Roanoke Parks and Recreation’s P.L.A.Y. After School Program recently enjoyed two visits with college athletic teams while in town for the 2022 CIAA Conference Championships. Representatives with the CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) along with student athletes visited the after-school program to meet with the students and participate in games and enrichment activities.
Cross Country athletes from Livingstone College, Elizabeth City State University, Virginia Union University, and Shaw University visited the students in October. The teams provided homework help, played games in the gym, and got to speak with the students about their experiences in collegiate athletics. During a second visit in November, the after-school students were joined by volleyball teams from Shaw University, Elizabeth City State University, Winston-Salem State University, and Fayetteville State University. The teams played games with the kids in the gym, played board games, and spent time talking with them.
