Stormdrain Inlet Art Project

Roanoke Stormwater and Roanoke Arts Commission have teamed up for another Stormdrain Inlet Art Project. Be sure to check them out in-person! You can vote for the People’s Choice Award by going to Roanoke Stormwater | Facebook and ‘liking or loving’ the picture of your favorite design. Voting ends at 5 PM on Sunday, October 16th.

Historical Marker Placed in Remembrance of Thomas Smith

On September 21st a historical marker was placed in the City of Roanoke in remembrance of Thomas Smith, who was lynched 129 years ago. Thank you to the Equal Justice Initiative and the Roanoke Branch NAACP for making this historical marker possible.

Downtown Ambassador Program - Weekly Summary

 In the past week, the ambassador team with Downtown Roanoke, Inc has accomplished the following:

  • Weed Abatement = 25 
  • Outreach Contacts = 128 
  • Billy Goat Hours (large street vacuum) = 6 
  • Handbills/Stickers/Graffiti Removed = 55 
  • Litter Collected = 16 bags 
  • Hospitality Assists = 58 
  • Scooter Relocations = 137 
  • Power Washing Hours =  

The current hours for Downtown Ambassadors are noted below. This schedule is subject to change as adjustments are made during the early stages of the program.

  • Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 4:30pm 
  • Friday & Saturday 8:00am - 10:30pm

Graduation of 83rd Basic Roanoke Police Academy

Meet the most recent graduates of the Roanoke Police Training Academy! They will start their careers in the Patrol Bureau and will be accompanied by a Field Training Officer until they are released to independent patrol. Please say hello if you see them on patrol!
