Melrose Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project
On August 5th, we celebrated the completion of the Melrose Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project, culminating a commitment by the City of Roanoke in the Melrose-Orange Target Area that began in 2015. This project was the result of community outreach and feedback from numerous residents, business owners, and other stakeholders in Northwest Roanoke. Bike lanes, paving, and landscaping projects have been completed along with two new covered bus shelters. These shelters are a collaborative effort between Roanoke Arts Commission, Valley Metro, HUD Community Resources, and residents and stakeholders of MOTA. Local artist, Daniel Kuehl, designed the shelters that were locally fabricated at Renaissance Contract Lighting and Furniture. They exemplify the pride and diversity of the local neighborhoods and emphasize the potential of the people who live and work there.
