Congratulations to the 24th Leadership College Graduation class!
Roanoke’s Leadership College has been designed to engage citizens in a series of interactive and engaging discussions and activities, which enables participants to enhance their knowledge of the city and how the city operates. Participants explore issues that impact their quality of life as well as that of each and every resident of the city. The interactive programs assist participants in collaborating with neighborhood organizations, community and business leaders, city officials, and city staff to improve the quality of life in their neighborhood and promote a stronger sense of belonging and community. Building upon their knowledge, skills, and commitment, participants of the Leadership College will begin to transform their neighborhood, and ultimately our city.
These 19 graduates took the time out of their busy days to learn about their government, to become resources of information to their neighbors, and hopefully to become more involved in the city in which they live. They heard from City Council about the vision and future of our city; personally, met the Directors and Managers of each city department, learning about the services they provide and how to access those services. They also had an opportunity to interact with neighbors from across our city who otherwise they might not have had the opportunity to do so.

Parks and Recreation to Hold Court Dedication, Basketball Tournament Honoring Ricky Renell Wright
On Friday, May 20, 2022, Roanoke Parks and Recreation (PLAY Roanoke) will hold a dedication ceremony at Washington Park honoring the late Ricky Renell Wright. At 4 p.m., City dignitaries, Department staff, and friends and family of Wright will gather to celebrate the naming of the new basketball courts in his honor. Immediately after, a 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament will take place. These events are free to the community to participate in and attend, and they are part of the Star City Safe Initiative to offer expanded services and access to public facilities to keep our youth and neighborhoods safe through programming and engagement.
Roanoke City Sheriff's Office Fundraising Events for Special Olympics Virginia
May 25, 2022, from 11 AM to 1 PM, the Sheriff’s Office will be having a hot dog sale on the corner of 3rd Street and Campbell Avenue. Enjoy a lunch of 2 hot dogs, a bag of chips, and a drink for $5.
All proceeds and donations received will benefit Special Olympics Virginia.

Roanoke Stormwater Annual Cleanup
Thursday, May 12, Roanoke Stormwater conducted their annual spring cleanup at several locations along Peters Creek and Lick Run. They removed 32,000 pounds of trash & debris, including 17 tires, several shopping carts, and other bulky items. This also happens to be the weight of 5 Rhinos or 32 Grand Pianos!!! Many thanks to our amazing Stormwater staff members, who are passionate about keeping our waterways clear.
