Bagged Leaf Collection Begins Soon

The City’s Bagged Leaf Collection Program will be conducted in November and December on the following weeks:

  • Nov. 15-18
  • Nov. 29-Dec. 2
  • Dec. 6-9
  • Dec. 13-16

 Bagged leaf collection will not occur during the week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 22-25). A postcard with bagged leaf collection information was mailed to residents this week. More information can be found at roanokeva.gov/leaves.

City, Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation Dedicate Historic Interpretive Sign

On Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, Roanoke’s Fire-EMS Department and the Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation held a dedication ceremony for the Fire Station No. 7 historical interpretive sign, commemorating the history of the station from its original 1922 construction to the unveiling of the new station in early-2021. 13th Street Improvement Project Begins

A Virginia Department of Transportation road project to improve a portion of 13th Street SE has begun. Located in a residential neighborhood just east of downtown Roanoke, this project will improve traffic flow and connectivity along 13th Street SE, between Church Avenue and Norfolk Avenue.  Starting Nov. 3, 2021, a long-term traffic change was put into place that will remain throughout most of the project. RCAHD Seeks Proposals to Support Greater Equity and Access to COVID-19 Vaccines

Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts are seeking proposals from a diverse array of organizations to support the goal of ensuring greater equity and access to COVID-19 vaccines for those disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The Request for Proposal (RFP) from RCAHD is publicly available to any and all who have the capacity and the interest to support the Health District in pursuing this goal.  To read the full news release, click here.  

FEMA Offers Webinars on Nonprofit Security Grant Program

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Grant Programs Directorate, in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives, and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, invites faith-based, community, and nonprofit organizations to participate in upcoming webinars regarding the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP). Each webinar will present the same content, including:

  • Lessons Learned: A Summary of the Fiscal year 2021 NSGP
  • What to Do Now: Preparation for the 2022 NSGP
  • Physical Safety/Security: Vulnerability Self-Assessment Information and Tools
  • Open Forum: Moderated Questions and Answers Session

Roanoke to Share Updates on Comprehensive Gun Violence Prevention Framework through DCJS Webinar

The City of Roanoke will give a presentation through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1-3 p.m., via Zoom. The webinar, titled "Building Community Violence Intervention Framework: City of Roanoke," will be presented by City leadership, as well as members of the Gun Violence Prevention Commission, to provide an in-depth look at building a local gun violence prevention framework, along with bridging and enhancing community partnerships, developing a local strategic plan, and leveraging state funding to support program implementation.
