Outdoor Movie Inspirations

This spring, Roanoke Parks and Recreation will host Outdoor Inspirations Movie Nights atop Mill Mountain to celebrate the great outdoors! Attendance is free, but registration is required. The first featured movie, “The Long Start to the Journey,” will be shown on Friday, April 2, at 8 p.m. Click here to watch the movie trailer.  A $5 donation to support the Appalachian Trail Conservancy will be encouraged. Click here to learn more and to register. 

In addition to Outdoor Inspirations Movie Nights, Parks and Recreation has a generous offering of programs during the month of March, including an adult volleyball league and a virtual self-care retreat.  Click here to see a list of all March programs.

Stormwater Utility Launches Campaign to Reduce Cigarette Butt Litter Downtown with Jingle Competition

Beginning March 1, 2021, the City of Roanoke’s Stormwater Utility will launch a campaign to address the reduction of cigarette butt waste in the Central Business District. This campaign is in partnership with Clean Valley Council, Downtown Roanoke Inc., Roanoke Arts Commission, Keep Virginia Beautiful, and the Solid Waste Division. The campaign kicked off on March 1 with a jingle competition to tap into our great local musical talent, as a way to share the message of reducing litter. City Partners with Freedom First to Bring CDBG-CV Grants to Local Microbusinesses

ln response to the economic hardships experienced by microbusinesses resulting from the COVlD-19 pandemic, the City of Roanoke, in partnership with Freedom First, has launched a small business relief grant program utilizing Community Development Block Grant - Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) federal funding.
