Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26 and 27.

Solid Waste Collection Schedule Changes for Thanksgiving Week
As a result the Thanksgiving holidays, the Solid Waste Collection schedule for Thanksgiving week will change.
Trash, “A” week recycling, bulk, and brush will be collected as follows:
- Monday and Tuesday collection on Monday, Nov. 23
- Wednesday collection on Tuesday, Nov. 24
- Thursday collection on Wednesday, Nov. 25
Leaf collection will not occur on Thanksgiving week. More details are available at roanokeva.gov/holiday or call 853-2000, Option 1.
Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Will Be Virtual
This year, to respect COVID-19 safety guidelines, the lighting the City of Roanoke Christmas Tree will be a virtual event on Tuesday, Nov. 24, shown live on WDBJ7 starting at 6 p.m., featuring Mayor Sherman Lea. More details may be found on the DRI website.
City Council Recognizes 2020 Citizen of the Year
Roanoke City Council has named the Resilient Spirit of the Star City as the 2020 Citizen of the Year for the City of Roanoke. The Mayor recognized the citizens of Roanoke for demonstrating this spirit throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Among many things, he cited them for being courageous, strong, and community-oriented during the pandemic. Read the entire resolution here.
City Announces Call for Roanoke Neighborhood Partnership Awards Nominations
This week, the Roanoke Neighborhood Advocates and Roanoke City Council announced the call for nominations for the 2020 Neighborhood Partnership Awards Program. There are eight Neighborhood Partnership Awards categories to choose from, and the application period is open from Nov. 16 to Dec. 18.
