GO Fest Activities to Be Held This Weekend

The 2020 GO Fest will be held this weekend, Oct. 16-18. However, out of respect to COVID-19 precautions, this year GO Fest cannot happen in the traditional sense. Instead, to keep the spirit of GO Fest alive, the event will offer activities including a benefit concert, epic team challenge, gear raffles, and small-scale outings spread throughout the region. Bank On Financial Wellness Series Begins in October

Bank On Roanoke Valley announces its next round of the Bank On Financial Wellness Series, which runs from October 2020 to March 2021. The series meets virtually on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on GoToMeeting. Classes are limited to 15 participants, and seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Financial professionals will teach the workshops, and empower your decision making and financial confidence through goal setting and consistent check-ins. Participants who attend all classes and meet their financial goals are eligible to receive rewards and incentives. More Than $8 Million Provided to Community for COVID-19 Recovery

The City of Roanoke continues to provide financial support for the Community and its COVID-19 recovery. Based upon an extensive community-led effort, more than $10 million in CARES Act funding has been authorized to support the community.  Read more here.

Campaign for Grade-Level Reading Recognizes Roanoke for Work Supporting Healthy Development

The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading announced that it is recognizing Roanoke’s Star City Reads initiative as a Pacesetter recipient for its work promoting healthy development in 2019.  Roanoke was announced as a Pacesetter finalist in July, recognized for filing stories that were highly rated by peer reviewers from GLR Network communities.
