Roanoke Releases Plans for Recovery
This week the City announced “Roanoke Star City Strong: Response-Recovery-Resiliency,” a framework for its plans to move from responding to COVID-19 to supporting the community’s economic recovery and ensuring its resiliency against similar threats in the future. City Partners with Roanoke EDA, TAP to Benefit Small Businesses
Roanoke has established a plan to assist City-based small businesses facing challenges as the result of the COVID 19 pandemic. Through a partnership with the Roanoke Economic Development Authority and Total Action for Progress, Business Seed Capital, Inc. (BSCI) loans up to $3,000 each will be available to offset costs associated with employees, rent, leases, and utilities. Find out more here.
Apply for Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus Funds
The City of Roanoke has been awarded supplemental funds through the CARES Act. These funds are known as CDBG-CV and are to be used for the direct response, preparation, and recovery of COVID-19 in our community. The City is seeking applications from qualified private or public non-profits or governmental agencies for CDBG-CV funding for the fiscal period beginning July 1, 2020, and ending June 30, 2021. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2020. Guidelines for applications can be found here.
Nominations Invited for Star City Shout-Out
The City is looking for ways to engage the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. To recognize and celebrate local people who are doing extraordinary things during this time, staff has launched “Star City Shout-Out” on the City’s Facebook page. Each Thursday, we will post a Star City Shout-Out for someone who has done something amazing to help the community. To submit a nomination, send an email to the Community Engagement Office.
