Valley Metro Extends Fare Free Service Through May 8

Effective Thursday, April 23, Valley Metro is extending suspension of fare collections on all Valley Metro transit services until Friday, May 8. During this period of fare free transit service due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, passengers are asked to adhere to the established guidelines. Read more here. 

Roanoke Joins ‘Light It Blue’ Campaign

On April 15-19, the City of Roanoke began its participation in “Light It Blue,” an international campaign where buildings and monuments are illuminated in blue light to show support for essential workers during the COVID-19 response. Working with Carilion Clinic, Poe and Cronk, and the owners of the Wells Fargo Tower, the City thanked our local heroes by lighting the Roanoke Star, Berglund Center, and Wells Fargo Tower. In response to positive feedback from our community, the City will extend its campaign through the end of April. Photos of these locations are posted here.

Animal Licensing Available Online

The City Treasurer’s Office recently announced online licensing for dogs is available to citizens. Using the PetData website, dog owners may register multiple dogs at the same time, and easily upload required documents. The site also allows you to manage animal records from home without having to call or come by the City Treasurer’s Office. Payments for licenses also can be made online. 2020 Census is Important to Our Community

Why is it is important for everyone to complete the 2020 Census? Your response helps to direct Federal funds to our community for schools, roads, and other public services. According to the latest data, the City of Roanoke is at a 50% response rate for the 2020 Census. If you have yet not responded, please take time to participate online, by phone, or by mail. It's quick and easy—the 2020 Census questionnaire will take about 10 minutes to complete. Click this link to learn more.
