Childress Named 2019 Citizen of the Year

Roanoke City Council named Marion D. Childress, Jr. (pictured below, right) the 2019 Citizen of the Year for the City of Roanoke. In recognition of this honor, Mayor Sherman P. Lea presented him with a Key to the City and a resolution commending his service to the community at the Nov. 18 City Council meeting. Read the announcement here.

City to Close Streets for Weekend Race

To accommodate the Star City Half Marathon & 10K, which will take place from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, there will be several street closures in the City. Click here to read more. Information about the Star City Half Marathon & 10K is available here

City Modifies Process for Funding Requests from Non-Profit Organizations

The City has modified its process to receive requests for funding from non-profit organizations. For the upcoming start to the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget season, the committees that receive the applications will use the approaches outlined here.

Solid Waste Collection Changes for Thanksgiving Week

City offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holidays on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29.  As a result, the collection of trash, single-stream recycling, bulk, and brush during Thanksgiving Week will be altered. Read more about the holiday collection schedule here.
