City, Veterans Council Partner to Plant Trees
The City of Roanoke has partnered with the Roanoke Valley Veterans Council to plant trees again this year in honor of Veterans Day. Thanks to a generous donation from Carilion Clinic, our parks received five red oak trees, which were planted today, Friday, Nov. 8. The signature planting was in Entranceway Park to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of The American Legion. The park, at the intersection of Williamson Road and Wells Avenue, is cater-cornered from the former location of The American Legion Auditorium. Two additional trees were planted in Eureka Park, and two in Highland Park. This is the second year for this project, which was initiated by Council Member Bill Bestpitch.

Veterans Parade Scheduled This Saturday
The annual Virginia Veterans Parade will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Downtown Roanoke. Parade participants include military units from across Virginia, military marching units and individual veterans accompanied by military, college and high school bands. The parade begins at 11 a.m. More information is available here.
