The functional role of the Court Security Division is to ensure the safety of the judges and maintain order in the court rooms, delivery of civil papers and provide education to school students though the D.A.R.E. program.
The functional role of the division is to provide support to the Jail Security Division through providing services to inmates housed in the Roanoke City Jail.
The functional role of the Roanoke City Jail is to maintain custody of pre-trial prisoners and to carry out judgments of the courts of sentenced offenders with respect and protection of the civil, and legal rights of all offenders.
One of the primary objectives of the Court Services Divisions is to serve all civil process papers in a timely manner. In the fiscal year 2019-2020 The Civil Process Servers served over 40,000 papers in City of Roanoke that were issued by courts throughout the state, as well as out-of-state papers, and papers issued for service from citizens, businesses or firms. There are currently (8) Civil Process Servers working for the Roanoke Sheriff's Office.
