The Roanoke Fire-EMS Department administers fire and life safety regulations for all properties within the City of Roanoke limits. Permits must be obtained from Roanoke Fire-EMS for special events, public assembly occupancies, storage or use of hazardous materials; hazardous operations such as hot work and spray finishing, and a wide variety of other activities where a fire or life safety hazard may exist. This section is designed to assist you in determining whether or not a fire permit is required for your operation and to guide you through the application and inspection process when a permit is needed.
Find the permit you need, then click on the application button to download your application packet (they include the conditions and additional support materials you will need.) Once you have filled out the application print it out and bring it (along with a check/money order payable to the City of Roanoke) to the Roanoke Fire-EMS Fire Prevention Division 713 Third St., SW Roanoke, VA 24016 (located at the corner of Franklin Rd., and Elm Ave. at Fire-EMS Station 1, third floor) for processing. If you have questions, please call 540-853-2795.
Please note that Fire Protection System Construction Permits are issued by the City of Roanoke Building Officials Office located at 215 Church Ave., SW Roanoke, VA Room 170. This includes plan review for the installation of fire alarm, sprinklers systems, stand pipes, pumps and a variety of additional systems.
