Present the original will to the clerk of circuit court's office for proof (if there is not a self-proving clause in the will), either by the testimony or deposition of one of the subscribing witnesses or by 2 disinterested persons who can verify the handwriting and signature on a holographic (handwritten) will.
  2. Arrange for surety (security) on the bond unless it is waived by law or in the will.
  3. Furnish a List of Heirs at Law.
  4. Please call the Clerk's office for an appointment. Appointments are required for all probate matters. For the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court for the city of Roanoke, call 540-853-5832,540-853-6712 or 540-583-6710
