Responsibility
The Criminal Division of the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court is responsible for creating and maintaining records on all criminal cases heard in the Roanoke City Circuit Court. The Criminal Division accepts payment for criminal fines and restitution in person or online.
Payment Options
Payments can be made in person by cash, personal check, certified check, Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card. Payments made using a debit or credit card are assessed a convenience fee whether made in person or online. The convenience fee is $2.00 for amounts up to $50.00 and 4% for amounts greater than $50.00.
If you are on a payment plan in this court, your payments must be applied to cases in the order specified in your payment plan agreement. If your payments are made to the wrong case your payment plan may be in default or you may have to make an additional payment to correct the error. The Clerk's Office is NOT responsible if a payment is made to the wrong case. If you have ANY questions about paying your costs in person or online please call the Clerk's Office at 540-853-6723.
Effective November 20, 2017, and as amended July 1, 2021, the Circuit Court Clerk's Office will accept payments on criminal and traffic cases online. Payments are made through www.courts.state.va.us click here.
IMPORTANT: Before making an online payment, you will need to have both the defendant's NAME and CASE NUMBER you wish to make a payment on. The Clerk's Office will not issue a refund for any payments made on an incorrect case. If you have questions regarding the case you wish to make a payment on, please contact the Clerk's Office.
Criminal Cases Case facts are searchable online through the courts.state.va.us website and in the public records room of Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court on the third floor of the Roanoke City Courthouse. Images are only available from the Clerk's office. Some documents or cases have been sealed or are deemed confidential and images and records for those cases may be limited or unavailable.
