Food truck inspections are ongoing -- more information here

The Fire Marshal's Office dedicates their efforts to providing a secure and superior quality of life for the citizens, visitors and the investors through code enforcement, education and fire investigations. The members further commit to cooperative relationships with other public safety organizations and code enforcement groups with common goals.

The Fire Marshal supervises Fire Inspections, Investigations and Life Safety Education. Members of the Fire Marshal's Office enforce the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code and related state laws found in the Code of Virginia. One of the goals of this office is to educate property owners and occupants of any fire hazards that are found in commercial properties. Inspectors visit businesses on a 1 to 3 year rotation. Inspectors review fire protection systems, handle citizen inquiries, issue fire code operational permits and investigate environmental crimes within the city. The Life Safety Education staff provides citizens with life-saving information through various federal law enforcement agencies.

The Deputy Fire Marshals and Assistant Fire Marshals are responsible for the daily supervision of fire inspection and fire investigation programs as well as management of the Knox Box Program, holiday and special event planning, manages permitting for fireworks and pyrotechnics and open burning permits. The Deputy Fire Marshal is also assigned to the Blue Ridge Environmental Crimes Task Force, conducts plan reviews for new construction, addresses hoarding issues and other code enforcement issues with the city's Code Team.
