The members of the Fire Marshal's Office dedicate their efforts to providing a secure and superior quality of life for the citizens, visitors and the investors through code enforcement, education and fire investigations.
Roanoke Fire-EMS serves as the Division 6 Heavy Tactical Rescue Team as well as the Division 6 Swift Water Rescue Team. This team performs rescues involving collapse, high angle rope rescue, confined space as well as water rescues.
The Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Team, established in 1981 is 1 of 13 regional teams in Virginia, comprised of 36 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) trained responders with equipment and training to handle chemical/biological hazards.
As a regional team, the response area includes the City of Roanoke, as well as from Lexington to Henry County (north/south) and Bedford County, Virginia to Wythe County (east/west), and all areas in-between.
The HazMat Team is proud of its heritage and response history and is continually striving to provide the highest professional response to the Roanoke Valley.
