The City of Roanoke Stormwater Utility has partnered with the U.S. Geological Survey to install nine precipitation gauges around the City. These gauges will be used to understand the timing, quantity, and distribution of the precipitation in the tributary watersheds that flow into the Roanoke River. This will help the City to better plan for stormwater control, flood preparedness, and emergency response.

The precipitation gauges installed (pictured left) are OTT Pluvio 200 gauges which operate with an internal weighing bucket. They are highly accurate with algorithms that compensate for wind, temperature, and evaporation.
