Purpose: The purpose of the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority is to exercise all the powers granted to the Authority to acquire, finance, construct, operate, manage and maintain a garbage and refuse collection and disposal system and related facilities, pursuant to the provisions of the Virginia Water and Sewer Authorities Act, Chapter 28, Title 15.1, 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended.

See Resolution No. RA91-13, adopted by the Roanoke County Resource Authority on October 23, 1991, authorizing Articles of Amendment to the Roanoke County Resource Authority, authorizing the joinder of the City of Roanoke and the Town of Vinton to the Roanoke County Resource Authority, and authorizing the creation of the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority. Resolution No. RA91-13 states, in part, that initially, the governing body of the City of Roanoke shall appoint one member for a four-year term and one member for a three-year term, and after the initial terms, each member shall be appointed for a four-year term or until his successor is appointed and qualified.
