Real Estate Taxes

If you do not receive a statement and your real estate taxes are not paid by your mortgage company, please contact the Roanoke City Treasurer's Office at 540-853-2561. Failure to receive a statement does not relieve you of penalties, interest and fees.

Real estate taxes are payable in 2 installments. The due dates of these installments are: October 5 and April 5 of each year. The tax rate for real estate is $1.22 per $100 of the assessed value of the property.

Tax bills are mailed the last week of August and February. It is the taxpayer's responsibility to notify the Treasurer's Office of address changes. Please complete the Change of Address form.

Mortgage Escrow Accounts

If your mortgage has been satisfied, notify the Treasurer's Office by calling (540) 853-2561 or by completing the:  Notification of Mortgage Satisfaction form so your Real Estate Tax Statement will be sent to the address you designate. This will help you avoid paying the 10% late payment penalty.

If you have refinanced your mortgage and you receive a tax bill that should be paid by an escrow account, put your new loan number on the bill and mail it to your new mortgage company. The Treasurer's Office will correct your account when payment is received from the mortgage company.
