Street Vending
The processes outlined in this section are for vending from a
motor vehicle on a public street; vending from a cart/trailer/motor
vehicle on private property; vending from a cart/trailer/motor vehicle
on a public sidewalk or other City-owned property; or vending during a
special event.
Vending on a public sidewalk or City-owned property is limited to a specific location. Items vended are limited to food and drink. This activity is limited to certain zoning districts.

Street vending permits are reviewed for compliance with the following regulations and guidelines:
Requirements
- Completed Street Vending Permit Application.
- City of Roanoke Business License (zoning verification IS required for this type of vending covering all proposed locations)

- Prepared Food and Beverage Meal Tax
- Fees:
- Application Fee: $75
- Permit Fee: $3.25 per square foot of vending site area per year. Fee is prorated for the number of months.

Street vending permits are reviewed for compliance with the following regulations and guidelines:
Vending from a motor vehicle on a public street is permitted so long as the vehicle is legally parked in an on-street parking space and is not impeding pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
The vendor must observe any time restrictions on the parking space. There are no restrictions on where the activity can be conducted or what items can be vended.

Vending from private property is permitted from a cart, trailer, or motor vehicle. The parcel must be property zoned to allow for the items being vended (e.g. "retail sales" or "eating establishment").

- Completed Zoning Permit Application covering all vending locations.

- Fees: Basic Development Plan Review Fee, $25
Vending during a special event where an assembly permit is issued must be coordinated with the holder of the assembly permit. Downtown Roanoke Incorporated coordinates most special events in Roanoke.
