Outdoor Dining

Outdoor dining has become even more important during the pandemic as a way for restaurants to provide a safe dining environment. We've tried to make the process as easy as possible, especially when you had an approved permit before and are just renewing your permit.

Permits can be issued for any number of months within the same calendar year.

New applications or renewals should be emailed to permitcenter@roanokeva.gov to get the process started (we can handle the entire process by email).

What you'll need to apply or renew:

1.  A certificate of insurance from your insurer (example here).  It is VERY important that be completed in a very specific way.  Sometimes, it's good to have your insurer contact our Risk Management office for guidance.

2.  A completed Application

Applying for the first time, you will ALSO need:

1.  Diagram of your outdoor dining area

2.  Pictures of the furnishings you plan to use.

Once you apply, we'll start our review.  Our Transportation Division may reach out to you to review your plan and discuss operations and maintaining sidewalk clearance for pedestrians.

Fees

When everything is in order, we will generate an invoice and email it to you.

The fees we charge are basically a monthly lease based on the square footage you occupy (the rate is $3.25 per square foot per year)
