About the Organization

Gainsboro, Roanoke's oldest community, is part of the overall neighborhood fabric of Roanoke. The Gainsboro Neighborhood Organization, previously known as the Gainsborough Southwest Community Organization, boundaries are Shenandoah Avenue west to 5th Street, north to Harrison Avenue, east to Gainsboro Road, south to Patton Avenue, east to Jefferson Street (excluding Gainsboro Library, south along Jefferson Street to Shenandoah Avenue). Included within this neighborhood are numerous buildings of historic interest that provide a link to Roanoke's past.

Located in the heart of Roanoke just north of the City Market, Gainsboro has convenient access to downtown and other parts of the city.
