Recycling Kiosks
The City of Roanoke’s Office of Environmental Management has placed recycling kiosks at the Main Branch and the Raleigh Court Branch of Roanoke Public Libraries. The goal of these kiosks is to reduce the amount of toxins that enter our landfills by providing a free drop-off for household batteries, free recycling envelopes for ink jet cartridges, and additional information to residents who wish to recycle at home or work. Toxins and other harmful substances, such as those from batteries and printer cartridges, that are placed in landfills can sometimes seep from the landfill and enter streams, lakes, and groundwater from which we get our drinking water.
Batteries left in the collection bins will be collected on a regular basis and properly recycled by the Office of Environmental Management, however rechargeable batteries will not be accepted at these locations. Also available at the kiosks will be prepaid shipping envelopes for ink jet cartridges and cell phones, educational brochures, information about the city’s environmentally friendly programs, and tips that citizens can follow to help the environment. For more information about the recycling kiosks contact the Office of Environmental Management at 853-2425. To learn how to start recycling at your home or business call 853-2000, Option I.
