ROANOKE

We believe:

a designated, predictable funding source for our stormwater needs is now critical. We can no longer depend on short-term solutions to a long-term problem.

Roanoke’s Stormwater System

History | What can be done?

Roanoke’s stormwater system has been cobbled together from various need-based projects over the past 100+ years. This system must accommodate the runoff of precipitation and must manage the streams that run through or under our city. The aging system was not designed to handle our current stormwater volume.

While some newer elements have been constructed over the years, no major storm drain improvement projects have been undertaken in more than a generation. This has resulted in identification of nearly 200 projects that require funding, but the current stormwater budget is insufficient to implement these projects.
