Dr. King has more than 15 years of experience in the field of leadership, training and development; and business management. She graduated from Bluefield College in 2008 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership and from Mountain State University in 20I0, with a Master's of Science in Strategic Leadership. Dr. King continued her education in the leadership field by earning her Doctorate of Executive Leadership from University of Charleston in 2014.

Dr. King has been employed at the Roanoke Police Department for over 4 years. While employed at the police department, she received her Department of Criminal Justice General Instructor Certification in 2012. Dr. King is an administrator to the online training, Power DMS for the department. She assumes the responsibility for the training records of civilian employees and sworn officers in the department to ensure all employees meet training requirements provided by DCJS and CALEA guidelines. Dr. King was presented with the civilian of the year award in 2012, which made her the first civilian to be recognized with this honor.

In addition to working at Roanoke Police Academy, Dr. King has been an instructor for Court Community Corrections since 2013. She educates and provides participants with the skills and knowledge necessary for the recovery process of drug and alcohol addictions. Dr. King recognizes that establishing a team oriented environment and strong communications skills among employees and peers to be one of the major assets of her success with her employment. She extensively utilizes her leadership skills to encourage students and employees to grow and excel within their current position.

Dr. King was born in Roanoke, Virginia, where she resides with her husband Sgt. Gayle Combs, of the Roanoke Police Department. She has a Daughter, Tiyana King; a stepson; Nazir, and a grandson; Taj.
