City to hold Fall Career and Lifestyle Fair

General
City of Roanoke
September 14, 2009

Roanoke, VA — As a result of the continued economic environment and large turnouts at previous Roanoke Career and Lifestyle Fairs, the City of Roanoke will be hosting another job fair this Friday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Roanoke Civic Center Special Events Center. The event will once again be sponsored by The Renick Group, Express Employment Professionals, and WDBJ 7.

March’s event totaled between 800 and 1,000 attendees. The event this Friday will reach out to more diverse employers throughout the region and will be followed by the NCTC’s Demo Day and Tech Expo held from 2 to 5 p.m. in the same location.

“We want to continue the momentum created from past fairs,” says City Manager Darlene Burcham. “Collaborating with The Technology Council for their afternoon event will make for an exciting day as it will be a ‘show and tell’ for numerous companies in the region.”

Exhibitors will include companies offering jobs, entrepreneurial organizations showcasing resources to assist with business startups, and lifestyle organizations offering a diverse mix of social and cultural amenities.

“Our recent job fairs have been very successful and we continue our efforts to provide opportunities for job seekers to interact with employers,” says fair coordinator Lisa Soltis. “This event offers the opportunity for job seekers to meet face-to-face with employers to learn what opportunities are available for them and the best way to proceed with the application process.”

Admission to the fair is free for attendees and exhibitors. For more information on being an exhibitor, contact Lisa Soltis at 540-853-1694, or e-mail lisa.soltis@roanokeva.gov, or visit www.roanokeva.gov/fairs.
