| New Roanoke Public Libraries Project: "CarLessBrit" |
January 11, 2009
Roanoke, VA - Roanoke Public Libraries, in conjunction with Roanoke Ride Solutions and MyScoper.com, is pleased to announce a new project,
"CarlessBrit - Living in Roanoke Without a Car, a 6 Month Experiment, http://carlessbrit.tumblr.com/"
We invite you to check out this innovative environmental experiment, with a light-hearted edge, documented with videos, links, photos and journal entries, online at http://carlessbrit.tumblr.com/
This project, which documents the real life experiences of a Roanoke Library employee who commits to not using their car for 6 months within the City of Roanoke limits, is already receiving significant attention from around the nation. It is not uncommon for folks to be car-less within a large metropolis that has a subway system and extensive networks of other alternative forms of transportation, but is rare within cities the size of Roanoke with more limited public resources.
The web site linked above also gives viewers the opportunity to become a friend of the project on Facebook, and to follow the experiences of CarLessBrit on Twitter and Tumblr websites.
The CarLessBrit project will also feature the showing of creative films on various related topics at Roanoke Libraries, speakers of local environmental organizations hosted at Roanoke Libraries and the existing collection of books and films on environmental issues will be highlighted and increased as the project continues.
We hope you find the project interesting, even enjoyable, and welcome your feedback!
