Share

This American Elm (Ulmus americana) tree is located at the first hole of the Roanoke Country Club at 3360 Country Club Drive in northwest Roanoke City. This tree is included in the book Remarkable Trees of Virginia by Nancy Ross Hugo and Jeff Kirwan with photography by Robert Llewellyn. It was chosen by the authors "not only because it was a gorgeous specimen - large, healthy, and beautifully shaped - but because it allowed us to call attention to an underappreciated tree habitat: the golf course."* It was nominated by the members of the Roanoke Country Club.
