Benefits of Trees

Trees benefit the community in many ways. Trees create an inviting place to live. They refresh the atmosphere by releasing oxygen and water vapor into the air and by filtering dust and absorbing harmful pollutants. Trees are natural filters and reduce noise from busy traffic and other community-generated sounds. They provide shade and cooling for parks, streets, and playgrounds. When located properly, they save energy costs by providing summer shade and blocking winter winds.

Trees beautify the community by adding color and variety to the landscape. They also reduce wind and water erosion, prevent runoff, and reduce sedimentation. Trees provide wildlife with habitat, food, and shelter. If trees are included in proper landscaping the value of the property can be increased. Think of how trees benefit you. Is it refreshing to walk along a tree-lined sidewalk or cycle along a tree-lined avenue? Do you enjoy the sounds of birds chirping in the spring or the sight of squirrels frolicking in the park? All of these things are made possible by the responsible placement and care of trees.
