Creative Connector Description


Roanoke, VA - Creative Communities Leadership Program (CCLP)

Position title: Community Creative Connector

Position summary: A community Creative Connector is one of thirty volunteer community members committed for one year to educate, engage and enable fellow citizens to build a more authentic, sustainable and prosperous community.

Each Creative Connector will spend one month studying the local economy and global trends in economic development. This prep time will culminate with a two-day seminar that will help Creative Connectors better understand Roanoke’s assets. At this seminar, the thirty Creative Connectors will develop a collective community vision and a set of plans and initiatives that begin to build it over the next year.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Prepare for the year
    • Study readings and current practices
    • Talk with other community members about the region
    • Analyze recent economic data
    • Participate fully in the 4T’s seminar to develop a collective vision
    Develop an initiative
      • Develop a project that makes the Creative Connectors’ vision a reality
      • Work with and support other existing organizations with similar goals
      • Attend weekly team meetings and actively participate
      Engage your community
        • Share your analysis and understanding of the regional economy
        • Be a spokesperson for the Creative Connectors’ vision and initiatives
        • Constantly recruit new people to be a part of the initiatives
        • Leverage and access available resources
        Coordinate efforts
          • Maintain easy information flow with the other Creative Connectors and initiatives
          • Attend full team meetings and check-ins
          • Link all public communications to CCLP overall
          • Meet regularly with the CCLP coordinator
        Commitment required: Being a Creative Connector requires a substantial time commitment. Each Creative Connector can expect to work on the initiative an average of two to four hours a week for one year.
